Charlotte Knights News Release
(NORFOLK, VA) - Outfielder Víctor Reyes had a day off on Saturday. Still, that didn't stop him from winning the game for the Knights.
Reyes ripped a pinch-hit, RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to propel the Charlotte Knights to a stunning 3-2 win over the Norfolk Tides on Saturday night in 10 innings from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The win was Charlotte's first of the series and first of the second half.
The team leader in nearly all offensive categories this season, Reyes had the day off on Saturday after getting himself into a 1-for-20 slump over his last six games. The team's RBI leader, Reyes stepped to the plate in the 10th inning with one out and catcher Sebastián Rivero on second base. With one swing of his bat, Reyes drove home Rivero for the go-ahead run. That run proved to be the game-winner for the Knights. For Reyes, it was his team-best 57th RBI of the season and Charlotte's most important of the day.
RHP Edgar Navarro (2-1, 3.65), who pitched a scoreless ninth inning, went on to earn the win thanks to the RBI single from Reyes. RHP Alex Colomé pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn his second save of the season.
Outfielder Oscar Colás continued his epic offensive stretch and homered for the seventh time over his last six games. Colas, who launched his ninth home run of the season in the first inning of Saturday's game, extended his hit streak to nine consecutive games. The Cuban native has also now scored at least one run in six consecutive games. He's hitting .296 with nine home runs and 29 RBI for the Knights this season.
LHP Nate Fisher was sharp over his six innings on Saturday. Fisher, who made his team-high 16th start of the season, allowed just two runs and fanned five batters over six strong innings. He did not factor in the decision.
With the win, the Knights improved to 1-3 in the second half of the 2023 season.
The Knights will play game five of the six-game series against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) on Sunday night from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch on Sunday is set for 6:35 p.m. from the home of the Tides.
