Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Bulls first baseman Jonathan Aranda recorded another multi-hit effort, Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe clubbed two hits as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment and left fielder Niko Hulsizer homered, while Jumbo Shrimp catcher Austin Allen crushed three home runs and drove in seven runs in Jacksonville's 8-7 victory over Durham on Saturday evening at 121 Financial Ballpark.
The Jumbo Shrimp jumped ahead early courtesy of Allen's first longball, a three-run blast in the first. Two innings later, Lowe ripped an RBI double down the right field line before coming across on DH Ben Gamel's RBI single to narrow Durham's deficit to one. Allen, however, would go deep again with a solo shot in the third followed by his third longball of the night, another three-run homer, in the fifth to make it a 7-2 Jumbo Shrimp lead.
Hulsizer would then go yard in the following frame to narrow the margin to three before 3B Osleivis Basabe brought across a tally in the seventh to make it a two-run contest. Following a Jacksonville single tally in the seventh, the Bulls would decrease the margin to one with three runs in the eighth, headlined by SS Tristan Gray's RBI double, however were unable to erase the deficit.
Aranda (2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI), Lowe (2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB), Basabe (2-5, 1 RBI) and Gray (2-4, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI) all posted two knocks in Durham's defeat, while all nine Bulls batters tallied at least one knock. Aranda picked up right where he left off in June, posting his 17th multi-hit effort in a span of 25 games.
Jacksonville reliever Johan Quezada (3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) earned the victory and righty Sean Reynolds (1.0 IP, 2 SO) notched his second save. Durham starter Cooper Criswell (4.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to face off again on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 3:05pm. The Bulls' starting pitcher has not yet been announced, while the Jumbo Shrimp are anticipated to give the nod to LHP Enmanuel De Jesus.
Durham returns home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Monday, July 4 to start a six-game series versus the Norfolk Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 6:35pm.
