Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Austin Allen smashed three homers in the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp's 8-7 victory over the Durham Bulls on Saturday night in front of 8,920 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Allen became the first player in the Jumbo Shrimp era (2017-present) to homer three times in a game at 121 Financial Ballpark, and the first Jacksonville player to accomplish the feat in a home game since June 4, 2010, when Mark Saccomanno went yard three times against Carolina. Allen is the second Jumbo Shrimp to hit three long balls in a game, following Dustin Fowler on September 16, 2021, at Norfolk.

Jacksonville (35-43, 3-1) drew first blood in the opening frame against Durham (41-38, 1-3) starter Cooper Criswell (1-3). Garrett Hampson worked a one-out walk and Dane Myers hit a bloop single, advancing Hampson to third. Then, Allen (13) clubbed a three-run shot over the left-field wall to grab the early 3-0 advantage.

Durham put up a duo of runs in the third inning to cut into the Jacksonville lead. Kameron Misner laced a leadoff double and was brought home on a double off the bat of Brandon Lowe. After a pop out, Ben Gamel knocked a base hit off reliever Johan Quezada (3-1) to plate Lowe from second.

Allen (14) tacked on the fourth run of the evening for the Jumbo Shrimp with a solo shot in the third, his second long-ball in as many at-bats.

Jacksonville tagged Durham for a trio of runs in the fifth to extend its lead, 7-2. Hampson doubled and Myers walked to put two on for Allen (15), who cranked his third home run of the night.

With two down in the sixth, Tristan Gray doubled, and Niko Hulsizer (11) hit a two-run shot to make it 7-4.

Three consecutive singles to open the seventh by Jonathan Aranda, Lowe and Osleivis Basabe plated the fifth run for the Bulls.

The Jumbo Shrimp padded their lead in the seventh. Hampson walked and Myers singled before a fielding error allowed Hampson to score, making it 8-5.

Durham continued to chip away at Jacksonville's lead in the eighth. Greg Jones sliced a single to right and Gray hit an RBI double. After that, a fielder's choice allowed Hulsizer to reach second and push Gray to third. Following a strikeout, Gray was plated on a groundout to bring the Bulls within one.

Jumbo Shrimp reliever Sean Reynolds came in to close out the game and picked up his second save of the season.

Jacksonville and Durham continue their series Sunday at 3:05 p.m. LHP Enmanuel De Jesus (2-2, 4.11 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp. Coverage begins at 2:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and espn690.com.

Sunday is a Baptist Health Family FUNday. Join the Jumbo Shrimp as they host a 20-minute, pregame, catch on the field. Kids can also feel like the pros after each Sunday game by running the bases. Sunday's game is Kids PA Day at 121 Financial Ballpark.
