(EVANSVILLE, Indiana ) --- Starting pitcher Matt Crim allowed two unearned runs over seven innings but the Windy City Thunderbolts received a complete game shutout from right-hander Mike Recchia in the 2-0 win over the Evansville Otters. b
Recchia allowed just three hits in the game while recording a season-high 16 strikeouts in the series-deciding victory.
Windy City was able to score the first run of the game in the very first inning on a fielding error from Evansville.
The Otters had their chance in the bottom of the first against Recchia. Center fielder Matt Sheely worked a leadoff 10-pitch walk, stole second and moved ahead to third on a throwing error from Thunderbolt catcher Zach Aakhus. Recchia was able to work around the jam though, only to maintain the 1-0 lead. The right-hander was able to leave two runners on base in the second and third innings as well.
Meanwhile, Otters starting pitcher Matt Crim kept the deficit at just a single run. The Thunderbolts loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, only to see Crim induce third baseman C.J. Gillman into the inning-ending fielder's choice.
The Thunderbolts added a run in the seventh inning and watched as Recchia would give up just two hits over the final six innings. He threw 146 pitches in the 2-0 win at Historic Bosse Field.
Windy City is now 24-16 this season as Evansville is 17-25 overall.
Recchia (5-2) pitched all 9.0 innings for Windy City, recording his second complete game shutout of the year. Despite throwing 7.0 innings, Crim (0-6) receives the loss. Crim allowed two unearned runs, scattering four hits and striking out six batters.
