O'FALLON, Mo. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, dropped the rubber game of their series to the host River City Rascals 6-3 on Monday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

The Rascals opened the scoring with a run in the first inning when Doug Sanders doubled, stole third and came home on an errant throw during the steal.

The CornBelters answered in the second when Pat Trettel led off with a walk, advanced to second on a ground ball and scored on a base hit to center by Pat Dockendorf to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning.

River City put up a crooked number in the fourth inning when Matt Serna reached via error and scored on a pair of fielder's choices, and Doug Sanders followed with a two-run home run over the short wall in right center to give the Rascals a 4-1 lead.

The Belters cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth when Bobby Rinard led off with a single followed by a literally towering home run by Steven Felix off the right-center field light standard.

The Rascals led off the seventh with a single and a walk with the runners moving to second and third on a fielder's choice, and both scored on wild pitches by reliever Estevan Uriegas to put River City ahead 6-3.

Ryan Krumlauf (2-2) took the loss while Preston Vancil (2-4) picked up the win. Dustin Umberger struck out the side in the ninth to earn his eighth save.

The CornBelters begin a three-game series in northwest Lower Michigan on Tuesday against the East Division leaders, the Traverse City Beach Bums. The Belters plan to start right-hander Tyler Lavigne (3-2, 3.48 ERA) against the Bums' righty Reid Kelly (5-1, 2.85 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com is 5:50 with first pitch at Wuerfel Park scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Central.
