Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied in the ninth inning, but were done in by a trio of errors as the Beach Bums fell to the Schaumburg Boomers 8-4.

After Schaumburg got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the first, the Beach Bums responded in the top of the second as with one out Kyle Colligan singled and promptly stole second. Two batters later, Marcus Nidiffer hit a ringing double down the leftfield line to score Colligan and knot the game at 1-1.

The game would remain that way until the sixth when Schaumburg would score four runs, the key shots being an RBI triple from Chad Mozingo and an RBI single from Karexon Sanchez to go up 5-1. The Boomers would add three in the eighth, two of them unearned.

Those last runs would prove to be big as the Beach Bums rallied in the ninth with hits off the bats of Matt Howard, Nidiffer and Jose Vargas along with walks to Kyle Eveland and Ryan Still plated three runs to slice the lead to 8-4.

Unfortunately for Traverse City that was as close as they would get as Chase Burch would hit a sac fly to the wall to score Eveland for the third run in the inning before Patrick Mincey was able to record the final out to end the game.

Cameron Roth (5-2) went 6.2 innings allowing one run to get the win. Jacob Clem (3-4) took the loss for the Beach Bums.

Offensively for Traverse City, Colligan had a pair of hits as well as two steals. Still, Vargas and Nidiffer also had two hits each for the Beach Bums.

The Beach Bums return home on Tuesday to take on the Normal CornBelters in a Two for Tuesday game on July 3 at 7:05 p.m. It will be Reid Kelly (5-1, 2.85) for Traverse City against Tyler Lavigne (3-2, 3.48) for the CornBelters. The Beach Bums will host their annual Welcome Home Celebration on Wednesday, July 4 with a special pregame ceremony and an extended postgame fireworks display, presented by Team Bob's.
