London Rippers News Release

LONDON, ONTARIO - Wild Things starter, Chris Smith gave up one run in six innings, shutting down the Rippers (17-25) and avoiding a series sweep, with a 3-1 victory.

Smith struck out eight in his outing, followed by 3 shutout innings from Nick Cicio and Chandler Bernard in the bullpen, stopping London's brief two game winning streak.

Washington (15-26) scored the first run for the third straight game when Rick Devereaux smashed a triple off the leftfield wall, scoring Andrew Heck.

Devereaux was thrown out at the plate trying to make it an inside the park home run.

The Rippers knotted the game up at 1-1 after a single by Matt Wright and a double from Joash Brodin.

After that, London could only muster 7 hits and left seven runners in scoring position.

In the top of the 2nd, Jonathan Erb walked and eventually gave the Wild Things a 2-1 lead, scoring on a Michael Bando fielder's choice.

Taylor Oldham smacked a solo home run in the 4th to cap the Wild Things scoring.

Brandon Sinnery (1-1) was the hard-luck loser for London, throwing 9 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing only three runs. He walked one and struck out four.

The Rippers take to the road tonight and start a three game series in Avon, Ohio tomorrow, against the Lake Erie Crushers.

London returns for their final series before the All-Star Break on Friday, when they host the Traverse City Beach Bums.
