Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Chris McClendon drove in Antone DeJesus on a 12th inning single to give the Gateway Grizzlies a 4-3 walk-off win Monday night against the Southern Illinois Miners. The win gave the Grizzlies the series sweep and their fourth win in a row. It was their third walk-off win this season.

DeJesus led off the 12th with a double and was moved to third on a sac bunt by Jerod Yakubik. After an intentional walk to Rogelio Norris, McClendon smacked a ball over the head of Southern Illinois left fielder Darian Sandford to give the Grizzlies the win.

Gateway (21-20) led 2-0 after an RBI single by McClendon in the first and an RBI double by Norris in the third inning.

Southern Illinois (24-18) scored a run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. The Miners took their first lead of the series in the seventh on a Jason Ganek solo home run.

Gateway tied the game at three in the eighth inning. Southern Illinois walked three batters, including a bases loaded walk to John Shelby to bring in the game-tying run.

Zac Treece (1-0) picked up his first professional win for the Grizzlies. Treece fired two scoreless innings of relief.

Tim Brown got the start and was outstanding once again for Gateway. Brown got a no-decision after his eight inning effort. The right-hander from St. Louis surrendered two earned runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking only one.

Gateway continues their six-game homestand Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark with game one of a three-game series against the Windy City Thunderbolts. Paul Tremlin (2-0) makes his first professional start for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05 with postgame fireworks.
