
Windy City plates two in seventh for comeback win

CRESTWOOD, IL - An RBI single by 3B John Santor gave the Windy City ThunderBolts a 5-4 lead that they would not relinquish on Wednesday night as the ThunderBolts evened their three game series with the Traverse City Beach Bums at a game apiece.
Billy Phillips (3-0) was the winner for the ThunderBolts after tossing three perfect innings of relief and striking out six. Traverse City reliever Jason Furrow (3-1) allowing the tying and winning runs to score in the seventh and took the loss. Brian Beuning capped the night with his eleventh save, sitting down Traverse City in order in the ninth to ensure the 5-4 win. The ThunderBolt bullpen has combined for a stretch of 7.2 perfect innings over the last two nights.
Windy City (16-25) scored once in the first when 2B Anthony Seratelli scored on a one out RBI single by LF Josh Buhagiar. Newly acquired 1B John McCarthy scored in the fourth after a lead-off single. C Jason Mann drove in McCarthy with a one out RBI single to left. A run scored in the fifth as well after McCarthy singled home Seratelli with two outs. In the seventh, CF Doug Schutt drew a leadoff walk and Seratelli was hit by a pitch to put two on with nobody out. A fielder's choice by Buhagiar erased Seratelli before RF Mike Forbes drove in Schutt with a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at four. After a McCarthy single, Santor hit a two out RBI single to plate Buhagiar and give the Bolts the 5-4 lead. McCarthy finished his first night as a ThunderBolt 4-4 with 3 singles, a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Seratelli went 3-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Five different ThunderBolts (Buhagiar, Mann, McCarthy, Forbes, and Santor) accounted for the five RBI's.
Traverse City (26-14) scored once in the third after an RBI double by C Clay Blevins scored RF Al Roach, who led off the inning with by drawing a walk. Three runs scored in the fourth on a two RBI single by CF Douglas Garcia to score SS Justin Holmes and 2B Stephen Young, who drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Garcia was scored on an RBI single by LF Mike Reese in the next at-bat. The Beach Bums had only one hit after the fourth inning.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Windy City starter Drew Coffey lasted 4.1 innings and gave up all four runs on six hits while walking six and striking out one. Beach Bum starter Steve Shippey gave up three runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out two.
The 11 hits by Windy City marks the second night out of three that the Bolts have been in double digits in hits. The ThunderBolts snap a two-game losing streak and Traverse City's four game winning streak comes to an end. The series deciding third game is tomorrow night from Hawkinson Ford Field at 7:05pm. Windy City sends RHP Preston Simms (2-3, 2.70 ERA) against LHP Shaun Parker (2-3, 5.70).
