Losses Keep Piling up as Rascals Shutout By Paints 7-0

River City Rascals News Release

CHILLICOTHE, OH - The River City Rascals lost for the fifth time on their six-game road trip through Traverse City and Chillicothe after falling to the Paints by the score of 7-0. Chillicothe starter Lavelle Morgan and All-Star reliever Nick Cavannagh combined on a two-hit shutout as Steve Brook lost his first decision of the 2006 season.

Morgan, making his first start with the Paints after spending the 2005 season in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization, did not walk a batter and struck out five in his season debut. He was helped out by last night's hero, Jeff Parrish, who hit a sacrifice fly off of Brook to give Chillicothe the 1-0 lead.

The Paints would add two more in the 4th inning when John Ramistella brought in All-Star Travis Garcia with a sac fly of his own. Adrian Cantu would cap off the scoring by hitting his third home run of the season with two outs off of Brook who only allowed those three runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings.

Morgan retired the last 14 men he would face in the ballgame before Cavanagh threw two no-hit innings of his own to hand the Rascals their 12th loss in their last 14 games.

The win was especially more significant to the Paints considering the news that one of their own, Steve Martin, was involved in a fatal car accident early Thursday morning. Martin was an All-Star in the Frontier League last season with Evansville and made consecutive appearances in the Frontier League Championship Series with both the Otters and the Paints. There was a league-wide moment of silence followed by the singing of "Amazing Grace" prior to the start of the game as a tribute to Martin's career in the Frontier League. Steve Martin was 24 years old.

The Rascals will try to avoid their second straight sweep when they face the Paints in game three beginning at 6:05. You can hear all the action on the radio home of the River City Rascals, 100.7 FM KFNS. Good seats are still available for the Rascals next home series against the first place Rockford RiverHawks starting July 8th. Saturday's game will be Christmas in July at the Ballpark with the game starting at 7:05. For tickets, call (636) 240-BATS or order online at www.rivercityrascals.com.
