Stanley and Spragg combine to shutdown explosive King's offense
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, took game two of the series over the Kalamazoo Kings by the score of 4-1.
Washington starter Patrick Stanley pitched seven shutout innings, striking out four on his way to his third win of the season. Reliever Stephen Spragg finished the game for Washington, allowing only one run over the final two innings. Kalamazoo's only run came in the ninth inning on a homerun by Frontier League homerun leader Ian Church.
Wild Things' All-Star third baseman Pat Peavey pounded out three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth, while shortstop Brett Grandstrand added a single and two runs scored.
The scoring began for Washington in the third inning when All-Star catcher Brandon Ketron drove in the first run. The Wild Things added two more runs in the fifth, with second baseman Jason Bucholtz scoring on a Kings error, and shortstop Brett Grandstrand scoring on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Lance Koenig.
The Wild Things (19-20) will attempt to take the series win against the Kings (24-17) tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans can enjoy a Fireworks Display, courtesy of Washington Auto Mall, and receive their own copy of the Observer Reporter with a Wild Things Poster. Plus the first 1,000 fans will receive Baseball Card Strip #2!
