
Grizzlies take game two from Hawks

The Gateway Grizzlies (20-20) pulled within 1/2 game of first place in the Frontier League West Division Thursday night as they defeated the first-place Rockford RiverHawks (21-20) 8-1 in front of 2,003 at RiverHawks Stadium in Rockford, IL.
The Grizzlies took an early lead on an RBI single by Brooks Colvin in the second inning. Colvin drove in Dustin Roberts who had doubled to lead off the inning. Rockford scored their only run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 1-1 game.
The Grizzlies took the lead for good in the fourthRoberts doubled to begin the inning. Freddy Lopez followed with a double to make it 2-1. The Grizzlies added a pair of two out runs in the fifth on a walk to Mike Breyman and doubles by Taylor Johnson and Roberts.
The Grizzlies added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth a two-out error brought in David Arnold. In the seventh it was Johnson again who doubled to drive in Breyman.
In the eighth inning a wild pitch by Rockford reliever Adam Kroft rolled all the way to the Grizzlies dugout allowing two more to cross the plate for the Grizzlies.
Roberts was 3-5 with the RBI. Johnson was 2-5 with a pair of RBIs. Lopez and Colvin were both 1-4 with single RBIs.
Chris Little (2-2) started and went 6 2/3 innings for the win. He allowed the run on five hits. He struck out four. Ted Juske pitched 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run, and Brian Mayfield tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Grizzlies will go for the sweep Friday night in Rockford, IL. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Nathan Roush (3-4) gets the start for the Grizzlies.
