Windsor Scores Four Power Play Goals in Saturday Victory

Flint, Mich. - Windsor's Christian Fischer recorded a four-point night and the Spitfires scored four power play goals in a 6-4 victory (http://flintfirebirds.com/article/windsor02272016) over the Flint Firebirds before more than 3,700 fans at the Dort Federal Event Center Saturday night.

Windsor scored the first goal of the game 1:33 into the opening frame. While at the left circle in the Flint Zone, Logan Brown dished the puck to Christian Fischer in the slot who scored to give the Spitfires the early lead.

2:28 later, Windsor scored their first-of-four power play goals to increase their lead by two. Gabriel Vilardi sent a pass to Aaron Luchuk at the right circle where he found twine past Keyser for his 25th goal of the season.

Flint would respond 28 seconds later with a goal from Ryan Moore to cut the deficit in half. Will Bitten angled a saucer pass from the right wall to Moore who crashed the net and buried past a sliding Michael DiPietro.

Will Bitten tied the game for the Firebirds 2-2 with 12:40 left in the first frame. Moore found a streaking Bitten to the right of the cage who jammed the puck in for his 26th goal of the season.

The Spitfires regained their lead 1:03 into the second period on their second power play of the night. Mikhail Sergachev sent a laser pass to Bradley Latour at the left circle where he buried top shelf over the left shoulder of Keyser to make it 3-2 Windsor.

Christian Fischer scored his second of the night on a backhand, forehand play while skating past a Firebirds defenseman. Then, while on the 5-on-3-man advantage, the Firebirds made it a one-goal game when Moore banked in a goal at 8:31. Nicholas Caamano lined a pass to Moore who sent a shot on net for the Firebirds. The shot caromed off the leg of Hayden McCool and dribbled into the cage to bring the game within one.

Christian Fischer recorded his hat-trick and gave Windsor a 5-3 lead at 6:38. Fischer split the Flint defenseman before finding the back of the net on a forehand, backhand shot, blocker side past Keyser.

The Spitfires scored their fourth power play goal of the night and Bradley Latour also picked up his second goal with 1:03 left in the second period. Brendan Lemieux fired a shot on net that was denied by Keyser. Latour scored on the rebound earning the Spitfires a 6-3 lead.

Flint scored the final goal with 9:23 remaining in the game. Hî=A5kon Nilsen saw the Windsor Spitfires changing and bombed the puck up to Zach Grzelewski at the Windsor blue line. Grzelewski tallied his 8th goal of the season on a forehand, backhand shot below Culina's left pad.

Flint's Kyle Keyser recorded the loss between-the-pipes earning 40 saves on 46 Windsor shots. The Firebirds were one-for-six on the power play and were three-for-seven on the penalty kill. Ryan Moore picked up the third star of the game.

The Firebirds will host the Saginaw Spirit Wednesday night where one of the two rivals will skate away as the inaugural champion of the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup. The Firebirds hold a 4-3 lead in the eight-game series and will host the Saginaw Spirit for the final time of the season. The Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup tiebreaker is the ratio of goals for and against. After seven games this season, each team has scored 24 goals against the other making Wednesday night that much more interesting. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. (EST) at the Dort Federal Event Center.

To top it all off, Wednesday's game against the Firebirds' rival is also "college night." Featuring $2 beers and $2 hot dogs for all fans in attendance, it's a game that you do not want to miss. Additionally, all college students will receive $2 off their tickets with valid ID.
