A penalty filled affair at the Bayshore on Saturday, Feb. 27 saw the Owen Sound Attack fall to the Sarnia Sting by a score of 4-1 in the final meeting of the year between the teams.

The Sting scored four unanswered goals to skate away with the win on Saturday, a game that saw Attack defenceman Jacob Friend fight twice after being instigated upon by both Jakob Chychrun and Noah Bushnell.

Despite a fast start by the visiting Sting, it would be the home side that found the back of the net first.

With just 3:30 gone in the opening period, Nick Suzuki would find Bryson Cianfrone with a pass off of the halfwall and the overager made no mistake, extending his point scoring streak to seven games en route to making it 1-0 for the Attack.

Sarnia would answer though, scoring on a rebound after a flurry of Michael McNiven saves at 13:34 of the frame. Anthony Salinitri would pick up the goal on assists from Matt Mistele and Jordan Kyrou.

That score would hold until just after the five minute mark of the 2nd period, when Sarnia's Kevin Spinozzi used a backhander to fool Michael McNiven and put the Sting up by a score of 2-1.

Spinozzi's goal would come just seconds after a golden opportunity for the Attack on a play that saw Jacob Busch get stopped from just outside of the Sarnia crease.

Jakob Chychrun would eventually make it a 3-1 lead, scoring on a one-timer while the Attack were in the midst of a Paul Davis Systems Penalty Kill with 2:23 left in the 2nd period.

That 3-1 advantage for the Sting is how things would stand after 40 minutes of play, leaving Owen Sound a daunting hill to climb out of in the 3rd period.

Sarnia would make that lead just a bit more insurmountable, with Travis Konecny making it 4-1 just 6:22 into the period. His goal would come while the teams were playing at three on three after tempers boiled over and both sides went on a parade to the penalty box.

Konecny's goal would be the final tally of the evening, as the Sting were able to hang on and win by a score of 4-1.

Jacob Friend was named the Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game for his efforts on the evening, while Bryson Cianfrone's goal earned him Mac Taylor Corporation 3rd Star of the Game.

Sarnia's Charlie Graham was named the game's 1st star while Jakob Chychrun was named the game's 2nd star.

The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal finished at 39-37 for the visiting Sting on the evening.

The Attack will now have a day off before playing host to the Niagara IceDogs on Monday, Feb. 29 at 7:00pm.

Monday's game is the rescheduled date after the two teams were snowed out on Wednesday, Feb. 24 and fans are reminded that tickets printed with the originally scheduled game are valid for Monday's contest.

Tickets, for those who have not yet purchased them, are available at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office. Fans are also reminded that tickets for Owen Sound's 1st round home playoff games are now on sale and can also be purchased at the Box Office or by calling 519-371-7451.
