
Williams Dazzles, Beck Homers in Third Straight Game, But Yard Goats Fall in Extras

Hartford, CT- Jordan Beck homered in his third straight game, but the Hartford Yard Goats were defeated 6-4 by the Somerset Patriots in front of a sold-out crowd at Dunkin' Park on Thursday night. Somerset's Tyler Hardman hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning to give the Patriots their first win in the six-game series. Hartford starter Case Williams allowed just three hits in 6.2 innings while striking out five in his fourth successive outing. The Yard Goats blasted three home runs in the span of two innings. In the sixth frame, Beck and Warming Bernabel combined to hit back-to-back home runs for Hartford. Bernabel continued his hot hitting, tallying his second multi-hit game in a row and Kyle Datres extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
The contest was scoreless through the first four innings with Hartford starter Case Williams and Somerset starter Chase Hampton impressing on the mound.The Yard Goats struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning. Julio Carreras launched a lead-off solo home run off Hampton into the left-field seats. It was the second successive night that the Hartford shortstop blasted a solo home run.
An inning later, the Yard Goats tacked on three more. After Fernandez reached base with his second single of the ball game, Beck blasted a two-run home run on the first pitch he saw into the right-center field seats. Bernabel came up to the plate next. The third baseman matched Beck with a home run of his own to add another run to the Yard Goats' lead. After six innings, Hartford held a 4-0 advantage.
The Patriots halved the deficit in the top of the seventh inning. Tyler Hardman and Elijah Dunham hit back-to-back home runs in a three-hit frame for Somerset.
In the eighth inning, the Patriots evened the score. A single into shallow left field by center fielder Jasson Dominguez pushed across the Patriots' third run of the ball game. Two batters later, Tyler Hardman collected a hit in consecutive innings to score pinch runner Aaron Palensky from third. Yard Goats reliever Stephen Jones allowed just one hit over the next 1.2 innings. It was his third straight outing out of the bullpen conceding less than two hits.
After nine innings, the score read Hartford 4, Somerset 4. Austin Kitchen took the hill for the 10th frame, punching out the New York Yankees' top prospect Dominguez in a hitless half inning. Hardman hit a two-run home run in the 11th inning to propel the Patriots to a 6-4 victory.
The Yard Goats and Patriots play the fourth game of a six-game series on Friday night (7:10 PM) at Dunkin' Park for the beginning of Whalers Alumni Weekend.Joe Rock takes the mound for the Yard Goats seeking his sixth straight start of five or more innings while Yoendrys Gomez starts for the Patriots for the 10th time in 2023.
