
Wildcatters close out inaugural season in style

Beaumont, TX (April 5, 2004) â The Texas Wildcatters closed out their inaugural season with a two-game winning streak and finishing the week with a 2-1-1 record.
Tuesday, the Wildcatters gained a 3-0 advantage before allowing the Ice Pilots to tie the game and send it to overtime. In the overtime session, Kent Sauer banged home his fourth goal of the season to improve Pensacola's record to 9-3-2 against Texas. The Wildcatters picked up goals from Cory Morgan, Tony Lawrence, Martin Masa, and Rae Metz, while Rob Guinn and Rob Davidson each had two assists.
Thursday, Mississippi came from behind twice to tie the game and went on to win the final game of the Nextel Cup, 5-3. Lawrence and Morgan each scored their second goal in as many games in the losing effort. John Snowden also tallied his team-leading 22nd goal of the year with 18 seconds left in the game.
Friday, the Wildcatters shutout the Long Beach Ice Dogs 2-0 in their first-ever meeting at Ford Arena. Netminder Davis Parley earned the first shutout in Wildcatters history, making 21 saves. Lawrence and Mark Jackson provided the scoring for the Wildcatters and John Snowden picked up two assists in the win. Parley earned his 17th win of the year as well as his first professional shutout.
Saturday, the Texas Wildcatters defeated the Long Beach Ice Dogs 4-2 in the final game of their inaugural season. The three stars of the game shined for the Wildcatters as Lukas Smital had two goals, including the game winner, and an assist, while Martin Masa had a goal and an assist. Cory Morgan ended his professional career with a three-point performance in which he had a goal and two assists. Parley earned his second consecutive win, ending with 28 saves.
Player of the Week Nomination: In his final week of professional hockey, Cory Morgan had five points (3g-2a) and was +4. Morgan scored a goal against Pensacola and Mississippi to go along with his three-point performance against Long Beach on Saturday.
Goaltender of the Week Nomination: Davis Parley ended the week 2-1-1 as he turned away 100 of the 110 shots he faced in four games. Parley earned his first professional shutout Friday night against Long Beach, ending with 21 saves.
Coming Back For More: The Texas Wildcatters are currently ranked third in the ECHL in new season ticket sales for the 2004-05 season. The Victoria Salmon Kings, an expansion team for next season, leads the league in new season tickets.
