Wild Third Period Caps off Win in Lone January Home Game

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (17-13-4-0) earned a 3-2 win over the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday night. Forwards Nick Huard and Seth Ambroz along with defenseman Craig Dalrymple scored the goals for the Cyclones, who see their winning streak pushed to five games.

After the Mallards took a 1-0 lead early in the first on a goal from forward Jack Nevins, the Cyclones tied the game midway through the second while shorthanded when Huard stole the puck in the defensive zone and skated in a breakaway where he snuck a backhander through the legs of Mallards goaltender Adam Vay, pulling Cincinnati even with Quad City, 1-1.

The score remained tied throughout the remainder of the second, and 6:15 into the third, Cincinnati took the lead while on the power play when forward Peter LeBlanc won the puck back to Dalrymple off a face-off, and he hammed a slapshot past Vay to give the Cyclones the lead, 2-1.

That lead became 3-1 roughly two and a half minutes later when Cincinnati forced a turnover behind the Quad City net and both Huard and forward Jaynen Rissling had a couple of whacks at the loose puck in front of the net, however Ambroz was following up the play and jammed the puck in to extend the Cyclones' lead to a pair.

The physicality picked up just past the midway point of the final frame when Cyclones forward Brandon McNally and Mallards defenseman Andrew Panzarella went colliding into the boards in the Cyclones' offensive end. As McNally skated away, Vay tackled McNally from behind and delivered a couple of punches to the back of McNally's head.

After Vay was separated from McNally, he then skated to center ice where he met Cyclones netminder Michael Houser and the two engaged in a brief tussle and exchanged a few punches. As a result of the fight, both goaltender's nights were done and Houser was replaced by Mark Visentin, and Vay by CJ Motte.

The Mallards tested Visentin early on and pulled to within a goal with less than eight minutes to play when Nevins tallied his second of the night, cutting Cincinnati's lead to 3-2.

That was all the offense the Mallards we able to muster however, as Cincinnati withstood a late charge to hold on for the 3-2 win.

The Cyclones outshot Quad City, 31-20 on the night, with Houser and Visentin combining to stop 18 in the win. Cincinnati now embarks on an eight-game road trip beginning Saturday night in Atlanta against the Gladiators. Face-off ls set for 7:05pm ET.
