Branden Komm Heads to AHL Bakersfield
January 12, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID-Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Neil Graham confirmed on Thursday morning that goaltender Branden Komm has signed a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors. Komm is heading to the AHL for the first time in his professional career.
Komm, 25, was playing his second season with the Steelheads after being acquired from the South Carolina Stingrays in a trade last January. The Williamsville, NY native is having a strong season, his nine wins this year already just one shy of his career-high and his 18 appearances just three shy of his career-high at the season's midway point. Komm is ranked among the top-10 of qualified ECHL goaltenders with a 2.59 goals-against average (8th) and a .917 save percentage (7th).
Since November 25th, Komm has a goals-against average of 2.37 and a save percentage of .927. He's given up more than two goals in just two of his last 12 appearances.
"Branden Komm is a positive example for all ECHL-contracted players throughout our league that hard work, perseverance, and dedication will be rewarded," said Graham. "Komm is the ultimate team player. As a team and as an organization, we are very proud that he earned this opportunity at the next level."
Komm is the fifth Steelhead under ECHL contract this season to earn a call-up to the AHL. Forward Kellan Lain also played two games with Bakersfield earlier this season.
Komm is 23-22-6 in three professional seasons split between the Steelheads, Stingrays, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Evansville IceMen.
The Steelheads face the Colorado Eagles on Friday night, the two teams tied in the standings with 46 points.. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:10pm MT. with the game available on 1350 KTIK, Cable One, and ECHLTV.
