Quad City Mallards News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio- Nick Huard scored shorthanded and added an assist and Craig Dalrymple and Seth Ambroz provided vital goals during a wild third period as the host Cincinnati Cyclones (17-13-4) held off the the undermanned Quad City Mallards (18-14-2) 3-2 Wednes day night.

The Cyclones were on the power play when Dalrymple's drive from the left point snapped a 1-1 deadlock at 6:15 of the third. Two minutes and 25 seconds later Ambroz pounced on a loose puck in the slot to stretch the Cincinnati lead to 3-1. Ambroz's goal loomed even larger after Jack Nevins brought the Mallards back within one by one timing his second goal of the game from the high slot at the 12:48 mark of the third.

Nevins narrowed the gap to 3-2 by beating Cyclone relief goaltender Mark Visentin, who entered the game at 10:37 of the third along with Mallards replacement netminder C.J. Motte after starters Michael Houser (Cincinnati) and Adam Vay (Quad City) engaged in fisticuffs and were assessed game misconducts for taking part in a secondary altercation on top of major penalties for fighting.

The Mallards, however, could not cap off the raucous third period by completing their comeback bid- even after pulling Motte for a sixth attacker with 1:22 remaining.

The Mallards- who dressed just 15 skaters due to injuries- had gotten off to a strong start when Nevins scored the game's first goal from the left wing circle at 6:39 of the opening period. However, Heard tied the score at one and kick-started the Cyclones' three-goal surge on a breakaway during a Mallard man advantage at 9:58 of the second period.

The Mallards next play at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel and Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. Friday and Saturday will also see former Mallards return to the iWireless Center for alumni weekend, featuring a tribute to former team president Howard Cornfield Friday and an alumni game and twentieth season Genesis jersey auction Saturday.

Cornfield, who led the Mallards to unprecedented success between 1996 and 2005, will be honored before the current Mallards play the Fuel Friday. Returning Mallards will be introduced before Friday's game and will meet fans and sign autographs during that contest before joining fans for a postgame event in the iWireless Center conference center. Mallards legends will hit the ice themselves for the alumni game Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The 2017 Mallards will wear special edition twentieth season mash-up jerseys when they face the Komets Saturday evening. Those jerseys will go up for bid in a live auction to benefit the Genesis Health Services Foundation immediately following that game. Tickets for Saturday's Mallards-Komets clash will also be good for the alumni game.
