Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Alex Gacek scored two goals and Kasimir Kaskisuo stopped 49 shots as the Orlando Solar Bears defeated the homestanding Alaska Aces 6-2 Wednesday at the Sullivan Arena.

The win for Orlando came in the first-ever game between the two ECHL franchises.

The Solar Bears scored the first goal of the game at 5:49 of the first period as Gacek fired home his 12th goalof the season. That was followed by former Aces player Joe Perry's team-leading 19th goalof the season at 10:38 to make it 2-0 Orlando.

The Aces pushed back to tie the game at 2. Danny Moynihan re-directed a Steven Tarasuk shot for his 11th goalof the season, also assisted by Stephen Perfetto at 12:08. Then it was Perfetto getting one of his own at 14:46. He took the puck from Moynihan, made his way through the neutral zone, accelerated at the Orlando blueline, then slid the puck toward the net after splitting the defense. The puck's momentum carried it under the right leg pad of Kaskisuo and into the net...Perfetto's 17th goal of the season.

Orlando wasn't done yet. With just 14.6 seconds to go in the first period, Gacek tallied again and the Solar Bears skated off with a 3-2 lead.

The second period was all Orlando...on the scoreboard. Shots were a different matter altogether. Eric Faille at 4:01, Ben Danford at 8:50 (chasing Aces starter Michael Garteig from the net) and Chris Crane at 13:25 ended the night's scoring, with the Aces outshooting Orlando 26-10 in the period.

No scoring in the third period for either team, with Orlando holding off any dangerous Aces scoring attempt.

Shots for the game ended up 51-32 in favor of Alaska. The scoreboard told a completely different story.

Same two teams (Aces and Solar Bears), same time (7:15pm AST), same place (Sullivan Arena) Friday and Saturday in the same city (Anchorage).
