Washington Wild Things News Release
Wild Things Get Win Number 13 in a Row
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, continued their winning streak by defeating the Chillicothe Paints 8-5 at VA Memorial Stadium Tuesday.
The game started out as a pitching battle between the two teams. The Paints scored first in the third to lead the Wild Things 1-0. In the fifth inning, however, the Wild Things evened the score when David Reaver drove in Andy Hudak.
In the seventh inning the Wild Things scored three unanswered runs, and in the eighth inning Washington added insurance with four more runs. The Wild Things went to the bottom of the ninth inning with a seven run edge over the Paints.
But Chillicothe's Scott Lefler wasn't about to hand Washington their 13th consecutive victory. The infielder stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to left field.
Pitcher Brendon Davis, who had hoped to pitch his second complete game of the season, exited the mound after the grand slam, and RHP Stephen Spragg took over for the final two-thirds of the inning.
Davis (6-1) got the win, going 8.1 innings, allowing six hits, five runs (four from the grand slam), striking out three and walking three. Spragg struck out one in his two-thirds inning of work.
The Wild Things meet the Paints for game two of the three game series Wednesday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Flagship WJPA 95.3 F.M. will broadcast the game.
