Richmond Roosters News Release
O'Fallon, Missouri - The Roosters beat River City 6-1 Monday night, taking the rubber match of the series. Richmond's pitchers combined to shutout the Rascals through seven innings and held their batter in check throughout the night. The victory gives Richmond its fifth straight series win.
Kevin White scored the game's first run in the second when he launched a ball over the wall in left-center for a solo home run that gave Richmond a 1-0 lead. Another run scored in the fourth when Tony Sanguinetti doubled off the wall in right to score Mike Reese. The Roosters scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to stretch the lead to 4-0. Mike Reese hit a solo shot deep to left in the sixth while Nate Gravley added a two-out single in the seventh to score Joe Rhomberg from second.
Tony Sanguinetti added a couple more RBI in the eighth when he crushed a ball to left for his 21st homer of the season. That scored Mike Reese and gave Richmond a 6-0 lead. The Rascals finally got on the board in the eighth when Anthony Slagle was hit in the helmet with the bases loaded to force in a run. That would be all the offense that River City would get however as the Roosters would take the final game of the series. Kris Regas (3-3) got the win after pitching three innings of relief for Richmond while Aaron Ledbetter (10-3) took the loss.
The Roosters will return home on Tuesday to begin a three-game series against the Ohio Valley Redcoats. Tony Casoli (7-2, 3.41 ERA) will start for Richmond as the game will begin at approximately 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time).
