
Grizzlies take series opener from Mavericks

The Gateway Grizzlies broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the top of the second inning. They would never trailed as they beat the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 6-3 in Columbia, MO.
The Grizzlies are now 33-36. The Mid-Missouri Mavericks drop to 22-46.
The Grizzlies scored the six runs on 12 hits for the night, marking the 35th time this season the team has recorded more than 10 hits. Oscar Vargas turned in two RBIs with a long two-run home run in the sixth. He was 2-4. Ryan Suillvan continued to swing a hot bat. Sullivan was 2-3 with an RBI. Eric Sansouci and Mike Breyman each added RBIs for the Grizzlies.
Matt Powell (5-2) earned the win, going five innings in the start. He gave up two runs on nine hits. Scott Patterson pitched a perfect ninth for his third save of the year. He struck out a pair in the inning.
The Grizzlies and Mavericks will play game two Wednesday night. Game time is 7:05 at Taylor Stadium in Columbia, MO.
