Evansville Otters News Release

Chris Pillsbury pitched his third complete game of the season, striking out a career high 12 batters in the game, but it was not enough as the Evansville Otters fell to the Florence Freedom 3-1.

The Freedom got on the board in the second inning when Josh Sanchez singled with the bases loaded to score a pair of runs and give the Freedom a 2-0 lead. Florence would score a run in the fourth inning to go up 3-0.

Pillsbury (4-7) would then settle down and finish off the game retiring 15 of the final 17 batters he faced to keep the Freedom at bay. Evansville got on the board thanks to a throwing error in the sixth inning recorded by Bowlin. However, on the very next pitch with runners on the corners, Brian McKenna lined a hard shot into rightfield. The ball was caught on the run by Scott Martin, who threw on to first to get the double play.

Bowlin (9-1) was also excellent, allowing one unearned run over seven, walking none and striking out a career high10.

Cody Blackard (4-3) will start the middle game of the series tomorrow for Evansville against Michael Dennison (7-6) for the Freedom. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
