Dulaney single in 11th beats Kings, 5-4; 'Hawks tied for first

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Todd Dulaney singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Rockford RiverHawks rallied to beat the Kalamazoo Kings, 5-4.

With the win, the RiverHawks moved into a tie with Kalamazoo for the Frontier League West Division lead, in front of 1,232 at Marinelli Field.

The lead changed hands or the game was tied in each inning either team scored. Aaron McEachran helped the RiverHawks take an early 4-3 lead with a two-run, opposite-field double in the first inning and a RBI single to right field in the third. Jason Sullivan singled in one of Kalamazoo's three third-inning runs and singled in another run in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.

Rockford relievers Curt Borland, Dave Dowling and Jason Glosser combined to throw 5 2/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball. The Kings did not reach scoring position against the bullpen. Borland got the RiverHawks out of the sixth with a double play and scattered a run over 2 1/3 innings. Dowling pitched three scoreless innings and Glosser (6-3) got the last out in the top of the 11th for the win.

In the bottom of the 11th, Gooby Gerlits led off with a double and went to third when Ryan Larson bunted into a fielder's choice. With nobody out and runners at the corners, Dulaney singled to left-center off Jeff Garner (5-4).

The RiverHawks can take sole possession of first place if they beat the Kings at 7:05 p.m. on Sherwin Williams Sure-Win Wednesday. Members of Rocko's Kids Club are invited to come to the park at 5 p.m. for the Saturn of Rockford Youth Clinic.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
