Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - Dave Miley may be gone - as Manager of the Cincinnati Reds - but not forgotten.
At least not by the Richmond Roosters, members of the Frontier League.
The Roosters have scheduled Saturday, August 20th as Dave Miley Night. The ballclub will honor the former Reds manager - he has family in nearby Brookville, Indiana.
Plans are to have Miley attend the ballgame against Kalamazoo and toss out the first-pitch - and the Roosters will permit all unemployed men and women in the ballpark free.
They will need proof of unemployment, according to Roosters' VP and General Manager, Deanna Beaman.
"As of today we do not have a true commitment from Dave," said Beaman. "In fact, he may not even attend on the 20th - he might be interviewing for a job. But, we'll honor him if he's here or not - and of course permit all unemployed in free."
Beaman noted that an unemployed gate might not do much for the concession stands.
"Sometimes you have to bite the bullet," she said, "we care for the people in our community. We'll see if they bring their own snacks."
Game-time for Dave Miley Night is set for 6:35 CST, Saturday, August 20th with the Kings of Kalamazoo. Former Roosters' player-manager, Fran Riordan, manages Kalamazoo.
Miley was replaced as Reds manager after a 27-43 record this season. He went 125-164 overall as Manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
