Wild Things Fall to Florence 7-5

Florence, KY -- Four RBI from shortstop Juan Arroyo led the Florence Freedom to a 7-5 victory over the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial at UCMC Stadium in Florence on Tuesday.

Florence (20-14) took the lead early in the bottom of the first.

Arroyo started the Freedom attack with a lead-off double and two batters later was driven in by a single from designated hitter Bryon Wiley. Florence got their second run of the day from a RBI by first baseman Jeremy Hamilton.

An inning later, Arroyo chalked up his first RBI of the game when he singled home centerfielder Pablo Bemudez to give Florence a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Arroyo continued to take over the game with a two-run double off Shawn Smith pushing Florence's lead to five.

Washington (17-16) was able to plate two runs in the top of the fifth.

Shortstop AJ Nunziato singled home catcher Jim Vahalik for their first run of the game. First baseman Stewart Ijames made a productive out when he grounded out scoring centerfielder Darian Sandford, cutting the Freedom lead to 5-2.

The Wild Things scored three runs in the top of the six to tie the game.

With runners on second and third, right fielder Gus Benusa launched a ball off the centerfield wall for a double, driving in CJ Beatty and Shain Stoner. The very next batter, catcher Jim Vahalik doubled home Benusa to tie the game at five.

As quickly as the Wild Things tied the game, Florence recaptured the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Arroyo added his fourth RBI of the night with a single scoring Bemudez, and Florence added another run in the bottom seventh when third baseman Jacob Tanis hit his fifth homer of the year to cap the score at 7-5.

The Freedom and Wild Things meet for game two of this three game series Wednesday when first pitch is scheduled for 6:35. airtime on WJPA 95.3 FM is 6:25.
