CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, mustered only three hits and lost 2-0 to the Windy City ThunderBolts on Tuesday evening at Standard Bank Stadium. The CornBelters face the ThunderBolts in a 10:30 a.m. contest on Wednesday morning
The ThunderBolts broke onto the scoreboard first in the fourth when Zach Aakhus singled to right but went to third when the ball was misplayed, then scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Andrew Brauer. The Bolts added to the lead with three straight singles to lead off the eighth inning.
Drew Provence (2-2) took the loss despite seven innings of work with eight hits, one walk and eight strikeouts. Bolts starter Dyllon Nuernberg (1-1) worked seven innings of three-hit ball with three walks and seven strikeouts for the win. Michael Click worked a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.
