
Grizzlies Begin Homestand with Impressive Victory

SAUGET, IL - Tucker Jensen pitched eight strong innings and the Gateway Grizzlies cruised by the Evansville Otters 7-1 Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark.
Jensen (4-1) allowed only one run (unearned) while striking out five batters. The right-hander from Ormond Beach, FL improved to 4-0 at home and lowered his ERA to 1.63.
In a matchup of the two teams tied for the best record in the league, Gateway (22-11) fell behind Evansville (21-12) 1-0 in the top of the third, before responding for four runs on three hits in the bottom half.
Jose Flores drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Chris McClendon picked up an RBI on a double and Landon Hernandez drove in two with a double to round out the Grizzlies third inning scoring.
Jon Myers recorded RBI doubles in the sixth and eighth innings while Jose Flores added an eighth inning solo home run.
Hernandez, Myers and Vladimir Frias paced the Grizzlies with two hits each.
The Grizzlies, who lead the West Division by three games, will look for the series win Wednesday night. Right-hander Tim Brown (4-2) will get the start. First pitch is set for 7:05.
