CornBelters Sign Four Rookies

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have welcomed four new faces to their roster. Jason Boyer, Tyler Shover, Ryan Lashley and Jason Matusik will all be entering their first season of professional baseball. The CornBelters will begin a six game road-trip today, and they will be back home at The Corn Crib Tuesday, July 2 to take on the Florence Freedom at 7 p.m.
"We're excited about all four of these signings," said CornBelters Field Manager, Brooks Carey. "All of these players have had very successful collegiate careers, and we're optimistic about their professional careers. "We're confident they can contribute to winning games for our ball club, and we're looking forward to seeing each one of them on the field."
Boyer, a left-handed pitcher from Florida Tech (Melbourne, FL), boasted a 3.29 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 13 games during his senior season (2013) and was selected to the All-Sunshine State Conference (SSC) First Team.
Shover, a catcher from Shippensburg University (Shippensburg, PA), had a team-best .361 batting average, 65 hits, 33 runs, 33 RBI and 13 doubles in his senior season (2013). He was named the 2013 Atlantic Regional MVP after going 10-for-20 with two home runs, two doubles and six runs while throwing out 4-of-7 base runners.
Lashley, an infielder from Lynn University (Boca Raton, FL), hit .304 with 56 hits, 34 runs, 28 RBI and eight home runs during his senior season (2013).
Matusik, an outfielder from Lynn University, hit .386 with 48 RBI and 34 runs scored, 16 doubles and seven home-runs in his senior season (2013). He was also selected to the All-SSC First Team, and he was named SSC Player of the Year.
