Wick Named Cardinals' Minor League Player of the Month
July 2, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Wednesday that State College Spikes outfielder Rowan Wick has been named the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for June.
Wick set a Spikes club record for home runs in the month of June with 10 through the season's first 16 games, besting the previous best mark of five, set by Mark Hamilton in 2006. The 10 home runs have also tied him with David Washington's 2013 total for the highest in a single season in franchise history.
In addition, the North Vancouver, BC native put up a .407 batting average in June, and his 21 runs batted in for the month tied him for the New York-Penn League lead in that category.
Wick delivered three multi-homer games, a Spikes record, starting with two home runs during the Spikes' Opening Night game in Williamsport on June 13.
A ninth-round draft choice of the Cardinals in 2012 out of Cypress College in California, Wick hit 10 home runs for the Johnson City Cardinals in 2013 to rank second in the Appalachian League. Wick made the transition from catcher to outfielder prior to the 2014 campaign.
The Spikes and Wick return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Friday for a special 1 p.m. Fourth of July contest against the Jamestown Jammers (Pittsburgh Pirates). Fans can enjoy three Spikes home games during a star-spangled weekend at the park stretching from the Fourth of July through Sunday, July 6. Sunday night FIREWORKS presented by the PA Lottery and ESPN Radio 1450, along with Military Appreciation Night presented by Beer Belly's on Sunday, and a Spikes Hat Giveaway presented by Lion Country Kia to the first 1,000 fans on Saturday, will all be part of the packed promotional schedule at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
