Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN,NY -Coming off a 5-1 road trip in which the Jamestown Jammers seemed to find their groove, they returned home to Diethrick Park Tuesday night to try to keep the good times rolling. Unfortunately, despite 12 hits from the offense, the Jammers came up short against the Williamport Crosscutters, 6-3.

Williamsport jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Designated hitter Wilmer Oberto doubled to start off the inning. Second basemen Derek Campbell then bunted and reached on a throwing error by Jamestown third basemen Chase Simpson, which allowed Oberto to move to third. Oberto then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of third basemen Jan Hernandez.

The Crosscutters would then add another run in the top of the third. Left fielder Jiandido Tromp singled with one out. He would then score on a double to right field by first basemen Rhys Hoskins.

Facing an early deficit, Jamestown would respond with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Shortstop Tyler Filliben would lead off the inning with a double, and would then score on a base hit by center fielder Carl Anderson. Second basemen Dan Gamache would then bunt Anderson over to second, and left fielder Jordan Luplow would double to score Anderson to tie up the score, 2-2.

Williamsport would add a run in the top of the fourth on three consecutive singles by catcher Deivi Grullon, shortstop Emmanuel Marrero, and right fielder Cord Sandberg to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Crosscutters.

That would remain the score until the bottom of the fifth when the Jammers again would even the score. Filliben again led off with a hit (single), he was then moved to second on a bunt by Anderson. Then, Luplow would come up big, with a 2-out single to score Filliben.

Williamsport would pull ahead for good with a run in the top of the seventh. Sandberg led off the inning with a walk, and would move to second on a throwing error on a pick-off attempt by Jamestown reliever Jerry Mulderig. Sandberg then moved to third on a bunt by Tromp, and would score on an RBI single by center fielder Aaron Brown. The Crosscutters would add two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth, on a 2-RBI single by Oberto.

Jammers starter Tyler Eppler would throw four innings, give up seven hits, three runs, and strike out five Crosscutters. He would be lifted in the fifth inning for Nate Baker, who is currently with the Jammers on a rehab assignment from Double-A Altoona. Baker would toss two scoreless innings, while only giving up one hit, and striking out three. Jerry Mulderig would then pitch the next two innings for the Jammers, and gave up one run on two hits. Eric Karch would throw the final inning for Jamestown, and would give up the 2-run single to Oberto.

For the Jammers on the offensive side, Anderson, Luplow, Filliben, and designated hitter Mike Fransoso all had multiple hits.

The Jammers and Crosscutters will square off again tomorrow night at Diethrick Park. First pitch will be at 7:05pm. Alex McRae, the 10th round pick out of the University of Jacksonville, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by left-handed pitcher Matt Imhof of Williamsport. The Jammers will also be helping Chautauqua Striders celebrate their 35th anniversary.
