Gillaspie Homers in Renegades Fifth Straight Win

Wappingers Falls, NY (7/1/2014)- The Hudson Valley Renegades won their fifth consecutive game after defeating the Brooklyn Cyclones on Tuesday night. With eight runs on eight hits, Hudson Valley won by a score of 8-6, and defeated the Cyclones for the third time in their last three meetings. With the victory, the Renegades improve their record to 13-5 overall, and now hold a two game lead in first place of the McNamara Division. Brooklyn falls to 11-7 with the loss, putting up six runs on ten hits.
Enderson Franco started the game on the mound for Hudson Valley, going 4.2 innings in his fourth start of the season. Isaac Gil continues to flourish in his relief responsibilities, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and just one walk. He is now 3-0 with a save and no runs allowed this season. Gerardo Reyes came on to close things out in the top of the ninth, striking out one in his perfect half inning.
Offensively, the bats were out tonight at Dutchess Stadium, with Casey Gillaspie leading the charge in the bottom of the first inning. With Bralin Jackson on third base, he homered to left field and gave his team a two run lead. His third homer this season, tying Hunter Lockwood for the team lead. Gillaspie finished 2-3 at the plate with two runs driven in and a walk. Bralin Jackson was 1-3 with an RBI double, and Jace Conrad went 2-3 with an RBI triple. With a base-hit in the eighth inning, Coty Blanchard improved his hitting streak to five games.
Hudson Valley is currently the only team in the New York-Penn League with a five game winning streak, and the only team to reach thirteen wins. They are now 9-2 at Dutchess Stadium which gives them two more wins at home than any other team this season.
Notes: Coty Blanchard, Eli Torres and Bralin Jackson are part of a three-way tie for the lead in stolen bases in the NYPL. They each have eight total, as the Renegades lead everybody in team stolen bases with 38, the next highest being Lowell with 19. Hudson Valley's pitching staff is number one in overall team pitching, with a 2.37 ERA in 171 innings.
Hudson Valley and Brooklyn will meet again at Brooklyn on Wednesday with a 7:00 first pitch at MCU Park. Nolan Gannon will bring his 0.56 ERA to the hill against Brooklyn's Octavio Acosta.
