MANCHESTER, NH - Garrett Whitlock turned in his team-leading seventh quality start of the season, however, the Thunder needed 11 innings to secure a 6-4 win in their series opener at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Whitlock surrendered a first inning run on an RBI single to Riley Adams and then settled in to retire 14-of-the-next-15 batters faced in his outing. Working with a 4-1 lead and two outs in the sixth inning, the right-hander plunked Nash Knight with a pitch and then allowed three straight hits to allow the Fisher Cats to make it a 4-3 game. Whitlock came back to strike out Logan Warmoth for his season-high seventh and to finish six innings.
New Hampshire drew even with an RBI single from Warmoth in the eighth inning off Daniel Alvarez and Brooks Kriske entered and retired all four men he faced to push the game into extra innings.
Domingo Acevedo entered in the tenth inning and stranded pinch-runner Vinny Capra at second to push the game to 11 innings.
Mandy Alvarez led off the top of the 11th with a double down the right field line to take a 5-4 advantage. Alvarez found himself on third after a groundout and Zack Zehner drove him in with a sacrifice fly to deep center.
With a 6-4 lead, Acevedo held the line in the 11th to earn his seventh win of the season. Acevedo is now tied for second in the Eastern League with four other pitchers with seven wins and helped the Thunder improve to 5-0 in extra inning games this season.
Kellin Deglan continued his torrid pace at the plate with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Deglan is riding a season-high 12 game on-base streak and nine-game hit streak and is 19-for-45 (.422) over his last 13 games at the plate.
Your Thunder continue their road trip on Saturday night at 6:35pm against the Fisher Cats. RHP Trevor Stephan (1-4, 6.27) will start for the Thunder, RHP Yennsy Diaz (5-5, 3.50) will go for New Hampshire.
