Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Akron RubberDucks couldn't quiet the Erie bats as the SeaWolves batted around in the sixth to run away with an 11-3 victory in the series opener at Canal Park on Friday.
Turning Point
With the score tied at three apiece in the fifth inning, the SeaWolves broke out in front with a two-out, two-run double from Frank Schwindel. That would just be the start for Erie, as they turned around and put up six more in the sixth to put things out of reach.
Mound Presence
Tanner Tully got the start and gave up nothing but a single in the first two innings, but the Erie lineup started to give him trouble in the third, stringing together four straight singles to put up three runs. The SeaWolves would come back for more in the fifth, scoring two on a Frank Schwindel double. A solo shot from Kody Eaves in the sixth chased Tully from the contest, with Anthony Gose coming in in relief. The floodgates opened further in the sixth as Erie tacked on five more, with just one earned. Robert Broom (2.1 innings) and Alexis Pantoja (1.0) had scoreless outings to finish the game.
Duck Tales
Akron wasted no time getting on the board in the first. Mitch Longo singled to start the inning and Connor Marabell walked to set the stage for a three-run Andruw Monasterio three-run homer in his first game back from injury. That would be about all that the Ducks could generate in the game, with six singles accounting for the entirety of the Akron offense after the

Andruw Monasterio's home run in the first inning came in his first at-bat since April 20 and marks his first longball of the year ... A seventh-inning single from Ernie Clement extended his on-base streak to 16 games, the second-longest by a RubberDuck this season behind Ka'ai Tom's recent streak of 27 ... Akron improves its season home run tally to 61, the most in the Eastern League ... On the Pond
Akron and Erie will play the second of their three-game set Saturday at 7:05 at Canal Park. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeartRadio channel, and the TuneIn Radio App, and available on MiLB.TV. Erie will send Spenser Watkins (2-0, 3.45) to the mound while the Akron starter is yet to be announced.
