Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Monday that the club acquired the MLS rights to central midfielder Andy Rose from Seattle Sounders FC during Sunday's MLS trade window in exchange for $50,000 of General Allocation Money (GAM). Rose has agreed to an MLS contract through 2020, with a club option for 2021.
"Thinking about the culture, the team, and the spirit we want to create, Andy is a great team guy who is going to show up every day," said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. "He has experience in the league and abroad and he can play any of the midfield positions. You need players like Andy on your roster."

Rose, 28, returns to MLS following three plus seasons in the United Kingdom. Most recently with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell FC, the defensive midfielder scored two goals in 53 appearances across all competitions. During his season and a half with English Football League (EFL) One club Coventry City FC, Rose scored five goals in 40 appearances, helping the Sky Blues lift the EFL Trophy in April 2017.
The native of Melbourne, Australia, who also lived in Bristol, England and Chicago, Illinois during his childhood, began his professional career in MLS with Seattle Sounders FC from 2012 to 2015. During his four seasons in Cascadia, Rose recorded 10 goals and seven assists in 106 appearances across all competitions and helped Sounders FC win the 2014 U.S. Open Cup.
Following a three-month roster freeze, MLS held a half-day trade window on Sunday from 6 to 10 a.m. PT. Whitecaps FC made five transactions during the trade window, also acquiring goalkeepers Maxime Crépeau and Zac MacMath, as well as left back/winger Victor "PC" Giro. Clubs will once again be able to sign and trade their players following the conclusion of the MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday.
