Wheeling Rallies to Win in Overtime

WHEELING, WV - Andrew Lord's goal 1:30 into overtime lifted the Wheeling Nailers to a 5-4 come from behind win over the Elmira Jackals Sunday evening at WesBanco Arena.

Elmira raced out to a 3-0 lead on first period goals from Ryan Hillier, Andrew Sweetland, and Brennan Sarazin. In the second period the Nailers got going, as Casey-Pierro Zabotel batted in his first goal of the season the on the backside past Elmira goaltender Marco Cousineau. Less than a minute later, Ohio State standout Hunter Bishop received a feed in the slot, and fired a wrist shot into the back of the net, pulling Wheeling within one, 3-2.

The Nailers continued the assault early in the third, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the period. Nick Petersen scored his sixth of the season to tie the game, while Joey Haddad tipped in a Mike Gershon shot, to give Wheeling the 4-3 lead. However, the Jackals tied the game at four on the power play. Using a two-man advantage, Elmira's Michael Dubuc hammered a one-time shot past Wheeling goaltender Patrick Killeen.

In overtime, Andrew Lord found himself with the puck in the low slot, and fired a wrist shot past the glove of Cousineau to seal the 5-4 victory. The goal was the third game-winning tally of the season for Lord. The win improves the Nailers record to 7-3 on the season, and they now hold sole possession of first place in the North Division. Goaltender Patrick Killeen improves to 6-0 on the season.
