Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals were doubled up by the Reading Royals on Saturday night at First Arena, falling 6-3 in the team's fourth game in five days.

The Royals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period. Andrew Sarauer's shot from the left circle went under the glove of Jackals netminder Marco Cousineau at 5:10, and Matt Caruana's shot from the right goal line found the net at 8:12. After the second Royals tally, goaltender Mike Brodeur spelled Cousineau for the remainder of the game.

Elmira came back with a power-play goal moments later. Andrew Sweetland fed Michael Dubuc, positioned on the right goal line, and Dubuc's shot beat Royals goaltender Matt Dalton glove side to make it 2-1, Reading, at 11:59 of the first. Justin Donati had the other assist on Dubuc's eighth goal of the season.

At 2:22 of the second period, the Royals extended their lead when Caruana's shot from the high slot snuck past Brodeur for a 3-1 Reading advantage.

Eric Regan's right circle shot from Donati and Dubuc at 12:09 of the second beat Dalton five hole as the Jackals scored on the power play for the second time in the game and a league-leading 16th time this season.

At 19:00 of the second, Ben Gordon's shot from the left circle redirected off of a Jackal and into the net to give Reading a 4-2 lead entering the third period.

Samson Mahbod's goal from Dubuc and Brennan Turner at 1:09 of the third pulled the Jackals to within one goal at 4-3, but two Royals goals from Olivier Labelle at 3:45 and Jared Ross at 4:10 gave Reading a three-goal lead, and Reading went on to win the game, 6-3.

Dalton made 30 saves on 33 shots for Reading in the win. Cousineau gave up two goals on 10 shots while Brodeur allowed 12 goals on 16 shots in the loss, Elmira's first in November.

The Jackals finish out their stretch of five games in six days on Sunday in Wheeling against the Nailers at 5:05 p.m.
