Florida Everblades News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (7-4-0) erased a three-goal third period deficit to pick up an incredible 4-3 overtime victory over the South Carolina Stingrays (3-4-1) on Sunday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
After allowing third Stingrays goal early in the third period, the Everblades blitzed South Carolina scoring three times in the final seven minutes to force overtime where, while on a power play Mitch Fadden ripped a slap shot from the high slot off the glove of Stingrays netminder Shane Connelly and into the net 1:27 into the overtime period.
Florida's third period come-back began at 14:23 when Matt Pistilli's shot from the bottom of the left circle fluttered past Connelly and into the net. Kyle Lawson and Fadden picked up the assists on the tally. The Everblades then used late game heroics to get the game into overtime, which they got with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of regulation.
The first of the tally's came with the Everblades on the power play and taking advantage of the pulled goaltender to create a 5-on-3 strength situation. With 1:49 left in regulation Alex Imbeault fired a shot from the high slot that found its way through traffic and into the net trimming the lead to one. Elgin Reid and Pistilli assisted on Imbeault's ninth goal of the year.
Again with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, the Everblades tied the game at three when Nick Tarnasky tipped home a shot by Phil Paquet with 1.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Along with Paquet, Pistilli tacked on his second assist of the night to help send the game into overtime.
The game didn't look like it would end with the Everblades on the winning end. After a tightly contested first period that saw neither team score and Florida out-shoot South Carolina 8-4, the Stingrays jumped on the Everblades quickly in the second period scoring a pair of goals in the first minute and a half.
South Carolina opened the scoring just 18 seconds into the period when Tommy Goebel lifted a back-hand shot from the inside of the left circle over the glove of Everblades goaltender Bobbby Goepfert. Just under a minute later Rob Ricci increased the Stingrays lead to 2-0 with a quick back-hand shot from the slot that found it's way through the pads of Goepfert.
South Carolina increased their lead to three on Trent Campbell's first goal of the season 12 minutes into the final period before the Everblades began their relentless pressure.
In goal Goepfert picked the win stopping 20 of 23 shots to improve to 4-2-0, while Connolly earned a tie allowing the four goals on 33 shots, dropping his record to 2-1-1.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-of-6, while South Carolina closed out the game 0-of-4.
