December 18, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
PORTLAND - The Westchester Knicks (10-3), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, lit up the court in a scoring frenzy for a 127-108 win over the Maine Red Claws (6-6) in the first game of a back-to-back contest in Maine.
The first and second best records in the Atlantic Division proved their worth as both teams had hot hands out of the gate. Westchester started off shooting 4-for-5 for a quick 10 points but the Red Claws went on to go 7-of-11 from downtown in the quarter. Eleven points off the Maine bench helped push the Red Claws ahead by four at the end of the first.
The Knicks quickly took over the lead to start the second while a 10-0 run extended that lead into double digits. Westchester followed it up with a 12-0 run, the Red Claws only able to manage two points within the Knicks' total run of 22. The visitors headed into the locker room with a 69-56 advantage.
Westchester continued to stay hot in the second half with a 39 point quarter. By the end of the third, Jordan Bachynski and Thanasis Antetokounmpo had combined for 53 points and 10 blocks for the Knicks, who had 105 points heading into the final twelve minutes and a 25-point lead over the Red Claws.
Though the Knicks slowed down in the fourth quarter, adding just 19 points, the damage had already been done as Westchester at one point amassed a 31-point lead over Maine. The Knicks finished with a 19-point advantage, their 127 points a new season-high.
Six Knicks found double-digits in the win, led by Jordan Bachynski's career-high 31 points. Bachynski also added seven rebounds and six blocks to his impressive night. Thanasis Antetokounmpo finished with 26 points, four blocks, and recorded a +38 on the night. Jimmer Fredette added 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and was +27 in the win. Sean Marshall finished with 17 points, Travis Trice II with 14, and Darion Atkins had 10.
Maine was paced by Omari Johnson who finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Mickey recorded the game's sole double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Andre Stringer added 13 points, seven assists, and three rebounds.
The Knicks and Red Claws will face-off for round two action tomorrow night, Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on MSG2 and the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
