December 18, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (4-8), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Bakersfield Jam (7-7), 108-100, on the west coast Thursday night. Canton gets the 2-0 sweep in the season series between the two teams.
The Charge held on to a 52-40 halftime lead thanks in part to moving the basketball around the perimeter, shifting the defense to find the open spots with 15 assists on 19 field goals. Nick Minnerath led the way for Canton with 15 first half points off the bench, while C.J. Wilcox's first half in a Charge uniform saw him net 13 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting.
Canton never trailed throughout the third quarter and led by as many as 13. Leading 68-66 with 3:45 left in the third, the visitors rolled off a 15-4 run over a span of 3:20 that included seven points from Minnerath alone. Bakersfield netted two quick buckets in the closing seconds to pull within 83-75 heading into the game's final frame.
The Charge led by at least two possessions the rest of the way en route to their first road win of the season. Minnerath surpassed his season-high in scoring just one game after setting the personal mark, netting 34 points on 6-of-9 three-point shooting and two steals in 34 minutes. C.J. Wilcox was strong in his Charge debut on assignment from the Clippers, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 boards in 37 minutes. D.J. Stephens added 12 points and six blocks in 19 minutes.
Earl Clark paced the Jam with 24 points and nine rebounds in 39 minutes. Xavier Munford poured in 21 points with six boards, seven assists, and two steals in 40 minutes. Canton's bench outscored Bakersfield's reserves 47-22 on the night.
