MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders led entering the ninth inning, but despite surrendering the game-tying run came away victorious against the Syracuse Mets, using a thundering walk-off home run by Wendell Rijo hit a thundering walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth to win 5-4 Monday night.

In the ninth, the Mets tied the game 4-4 on a wild pitch by RailRiders pitcher J.P. Feyereisen. The Mets loaded the bases with three straight hits- including a pair of bunt singles- to begin the inning. After inducing a pop out and recording a strikeout, the tying run scored with Feyereisen looking for one more out to notch the save. Instead, in the bottom of the inning Rijo nailed the game-winning home run that took the opener of the two-game series.

The game began with the RailRiders getting on the board first in the bottom of the first when Breyvic Valera plated Mike Ford on a groundout and the home team took a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Syracuse took a 2-1 edge with a two-run home run by Braxton Lee. Syracuse extended the lead when second baseman Luis Guillorme knocked an RBI single in the top of the fifth making it 3-1 Mets.

In the decisive sixth inning, Trey Amburgey nailed an RBI single for the RailRiders and plated a run. Then Erik Kratz sent a two-run double down the left field line to score both Valera and Amburgey to put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on top 4-3. That set the table for the back-and-forth ninth inning, which resulted in the RailRiders' 9thwalk off win of the season.

Feyereisen picked up the win to improve to 8-1 on the season out of the bullpen, following a strong start by Brody Koerner and lockdown relief effort by David Sosebee. The starter pitched into the sixth inning before giving way to Sosebee, surrendering three runs over 5.2 innings. Meanwhile, Sosebee retired all seven batters he faced and struck out four as he bridged the gap to the RailRiders' closer, Feyereisen.

The RailRiders conclude the series against the Mets Tuesday afternoon. RHP Adonis Rosa (3-0, 3.78) takes the ball for the RailRiders, going up against MLB veteran RHP Ervin Santana (2-1, 4.01) for Syracuse. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. For tickets and more information slide to www.swbrailriders.com/tickets.
