Despite an early lead and a Jaylin Davis home run, the Rochester Red Wings dropped the opener of a two-game series to the Buffalo Bisons, 6-5, Monday night at Sahlen Field.

The Wings struck first in this game, as Drew Maggi was hit by a pitch, and eventually scored on a Jake Cave two-out double.

Rochester (52-55) extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a Tomas Telis RBI single.

Wings starter Drew Hutchison put together four strong innings without giving up any runs. However, a fielding error by Maggi at second and a throwing error by Alejandro De Aza in left field in the fifth led to three unearned runs. Hutchison did allow five walks over his five innings of work.

Nick Gordon tied the game at three runs a piece with his 27th double of the year bringing home Wynston Sawyer in the seventh.

The Wings and Bisons remained knotted into the bottom of the eighth when the Bisons pushed across three runs against Cody Allen. Two of the runs were unearned because of Maggi's second error of the game.

Davis hit an opposite field, two-run home run in the ninth - his 15th of the year with the Wings -- to cut the Bisons lead to one. But Cave would ground out to end the game.

Maggi extended his on base streak to 31 games.

The two-game set concludes in Buffalo with a 1:05 p.m. contest Tuesday afternoon. The Red Wings return home to face the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Wednesday night.
