Mets Lose to RailRiders on Walk-Off Home Run, 5-4

Moosic, PA - A late Syracuse Mets comeback was overshadowed by a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders walk-off win as the Mets lost to the RailRiders, 5-4, on Monday night at PNC Field.

Syracuse (53-54) tied the game in the top of the ninth inning. Travis Taijeron led off with a single. Braxton Lee and Arismendy Alcantara both followed with bunt singles that loaded the bases. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre reliever J.P. Feyereisen then retired the next two Syracuse batters, but with Rubén Tejada batting, Feyereisen threw a wild pitch that allowed Taijeron to score from third base and knot the game up, 4-4. The Mets failed to take the lead though as Feyereisen struck out Tejada to end the frame.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (61-46) won the game in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Wendell Rijo hit a pitch over the left-field wall for a walk-off home run that gave the RailRiders the 5-4 victory. That is the ninth walk-off win this season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The RailRiders opened the game up with a run in the first inning. With one out and runners at first and third base, Breyvic Valera grounded out to second base, but Mike Ford scored from third base on the play to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 1-0 lead.

The Mets responded in the second. With two outs, Taijeron was hit by a pitch. Lee followed with a two-run home run to center field that gave the Mets a 2-1 advantage.

Syracuse extended its lead in the fifth. With one out, Alcantara doubled. Luis Guillorme followed with a single into center field to bring home Alcantara for a 3-1 edge.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre turned the tide of the game in the sixth. With runners at first and second base and one out, Trey Amburgey singled home Frazier from second base to make it a 3-2 ballgame. Erik Kratz followed with a two-run double down the left-field line for a 4-3 RailRiders advantage.

The Mets and RailRiders conclude their short two-game series on Tuesday afternoon. RHP Ervin Santana will be on the mound for Syracuse opposite RHP Adonis Rosa for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m.
