Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Durham Bulls (62-46) came alive late and scored six runs in the final three innings to defeat the Gwinnett Stripers (63-44) 6-1 on Monday night at Coolray Field. Huascar Ynoa had a no-hitter and 11 strikeouts through 6.2 innings, but suffered a tough-luck loss.
Scoring Recap: The Stripers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Pedro Florimon singled and scored on wild pitch by Aaron Slegers. In the seventh, a two-out single by Kevin Padlo broke up Ynoa's no-hitter, and a three-run triple by Nathan Lukes off Corbin Clouse put Durham up 3-1. Padlo added a two-run double in the eighth to extend the lead to 5-1, and an RBI single by Daniel Robertson in the ninth made it 6-1.
Stripers Stats: Ynoa (L, 2-3) gave up two runs on two hits and walked two over 6.2 innings. Clouse (BS, 2) surrendered three runs on four hits over 1.1 innings. Dan Winkler yielded one run over 1.0 inning. Rafael Ortega went 1-for-3 with a double, Gwinnett's lone extra-base hit.
Bulls Stats: Slegers worked 5.0 innings of one-run baseball and struck out five. Ryan Merritt (W, 4-4) pitched 4.0 no-hit innings in relief. Lukes went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Padlo went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Quote: "He was dealing, he had a great game," Stripers Manager Damon Berryhill said of Ynoa. "It was unfortunate we struggled offensively, his last three starts for us have been special."
Postgame Notes: Ynoa's 11 strikeouts were the most by a Gwinnett starter this season and matched his single-game career high. He also struck out 11 on June 6, 2018 with Class-A Rome at Asheville. Ortega hit his International League-leading 32nd double and has reached base in 90 of 101 games this season. Gwinnett holds a 1.5-game lead over Durham for first place in the IL South Division.
Next Game (Tuesday, July 30): Gwinnett vs. Durham, 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field Field. RHP Mike Foltynewicz (5-1, 4.10 ERA) for the Stripers vs. LHP Anthony Banda (0-1, 5.19 ERA) for the Bulls. Radio Broadcast: 6:50 p.m. on 97.7 and 93.5 FM "The Other Side of the River."
