The week in review and ahead
The Sound Tigers played five games this past week, capping off a stretch of eight games in 10 days. The week started well with a 2-1 win over the Albany River Rats last Tuesday, but ended with a four-game losing streak. The Sound Tigers fell 4-1 to Philadelphia last Wednesday, 4-3 in Albany on Friday, 3-1 at Lowell on Saturday and 5-1 to Hartford before a season-high home crowd of 7,241 fans on Sunday. The Sound Tigers have just one game this week, at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on March 2.
Nielsen notches first in NHL: Frans Nielsen scored his first National Hockey League goal when he netted the game-winner in the parent club New York Islanders' win over Montreal last Saturday. Jeff Tambellini also had a goal in the win.
In the standings
The Sound Tigers are 28-25-1-4, and in fourth place in the East Division, five points ahead of Albany in the race for the division's final playoff spot.
In the community
Sound Tiger players and Storm the mascot are out and about in the community. Storm is available to make appearances and will join your child's birthday party celebration at a Sound Tigers game (call 334-4625 for information).
Make a wish: Storm and players Steve Regier and Jamie Fraser were on hand to support the cause at Fairfield Country Day School's Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraising skating event on Feb. 22.
Bravest-Finest: The Bridgeport Sound Tigers held the annual Bravest vs. Finest Charity Game when the Bridgeport Firefighters took on the Bridgeport Police after Sunday's game against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The fund-raiser benefits the WICC Children's Holiday Fund.
