LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Binghamton (2/21): Right wing Jeff Heerema scored twice as the Binghamton Senators squeezed past the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday night. Center Marty Murray scored both Monarchs power play goals. Center Josh Hennessy scored a shorthanded penalty shot goal for the game winner early in the third period for Binghamton. Monarchs netminder Jason LaBarbera took the loss with 26 saves. Senators goaltender Jeff Glass earned the victory stopping 36-of-38 shots. Manchester went 2-for-7 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
Vs. Providence (2/23): The Manchester Monarchs took home their eighth consecutive win at home with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Providence Bruins at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The win marks goaltender Jason LaBarbera's seventh shutout of the season and 28th overall giving him sole possession of sixth place in AHL shutout history. Monarchs center Gabe Gauthier scored the lone goal of the game. LaBarbera stopped all 41 shots he faced. Bruins netminder Philippe Sauve took the loss with 27 saves. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
Vs. Worcester (2/24): The Manchester Monarchs eight game home winning streak ended when the Worcester Sharks sunk their teeth into the home team by handing them a 2-1 loss at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Monarchs defenseman T.J. Kemp scored for Manchester. Right wing Graham Mink and center Mike Iggulden tallied for Worcester. Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera took the loss with 30 saves. Sharks netminder Thomas Greiss earned the win stopping 32 shots. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (36-16-6-1) are in first place in the Atlantic Division with 79 points and is second overall in the AHL behind Norfolk (39-16-4-1) who leads the league with 83 points. Manchester and Norfolk face off on Tuesday night.
Manchester has a home record of 21-6-4-0 and a road record of 15-10-2-1.
The Monarchs power play is ranked fourth in the AHL after 59 games with a 19.2-percent man advantage scoring percentage. Manchester has scored 58 goals on 302 opportunities so far this season with the man advantage.
The Monarchs power play on the road is ranked first in the AHL with a 21.9-percent scoring rate. Manchester has scored 33 goals on 151 opportunities in 28 games with the man advantage away from the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Manchester's penalty kill is ranked 14th in the league after letting in 54 goals on 323 situations when the team has been down a man for an 83.3-percentage.
The Monarchs eight game home winning streak was snapped on Saturday, February 24 when the Worcester Sharks edged the Monarchs 2-1 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The win streak tied for the longest home win streak of the season as Manchester won eight games from December 3, 2006 to January 12, 2007.
When scoring first in the game, the Monarchs are 26-5-3-1. When the opponent scores first, Manchester is 10-11-3-0. The Monarchs are undefeated in regulation at home when scoring the first goal, 17-0-2-0.
The Monarchs are undefeated when scoring a shorthanded goal, 6-0-0-0.
When Manchester is leading after the first period, their record is 21-1-2-1. When leading after the second period, the Monarchs are undefeated in regulation with a record of 25-0-1-1.
Left wing Noah Clarke leads the Monarchs in scoring with 46 points (19-27=46).
Clarke's 19 goals lead the team.
Clarke leads the Monarchs all-time in goals (80), points (188) and power play goals (26) and he is ranked second in assists with 108.
Left wing Matt Moulson (13-22=34) is ranked second on the Monarchs roster with 35 points.
Moulson leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus of plus-17.
Center Patrick O'Sullivan (17-17=34) is in third place in scoring for the Monarchs with 34 points. He is currently on recall with the Los Angeles Kings.
Defenseman T.J. Kemp leads Manchester's blueliners with 32 points (4-28=32).
Kemp is tied for fifth place among AHL defensemen with 32 points.
Rookie Kemp also leads the Monarchs team in assists with 28.
Center Marty Murray (8-21=29) is fifth in Monarchs scoring this season.
Right wing John Zeiler (11-16=27) is tied with center Gabe Gauthier (12-15=27) for sixth on the Monarchs squad.
Zeiler signed an NHL contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, February 17. The rookie right wing scored his first NHL goal on Thursday, February 22 in the Kings 3-2 loss to Vancouver.
Right wing Lauri Tukonen made his NHL debut on Thursday, February 22 against Vancouver. The first round draft pick played 13 shifts for six minutes and 59 seconds of ice time.
Goaltender Jason LaBarbera is first in the league among minutes played with 2,960 minutes in 50 games, saves (1,513), wins (31) and save-percentage (.934). He also ranks first among active goaltenders with a goals-against-average of 2.15.
LaBarbera has played in 235 AHL games with the Monarchs and the Hartford Wolf Pack. He has a record of 123-72-20, a goals-against-average of 2.14 and a save-percentage of .928 in 13,141 minutes of work between the pipes and 6,007 saves in the AHL.
LaBarbera collected his seventh shutout of the season on Friday, February 23 versus the Providence Bruins stopping all 41 shots he faced. His 28 AHL career shutouts with the Monarchs and Wolf Pack lead all active goaltenders and is ranked sixth all-time in the AHL.
TRANSACTIONS
2-24-07 - The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) loaned defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
2-23-07 - The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) recalled center Greg Hogeboom from the Reading Royals (ECHL).
2-23-07 - The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) reassigned right wing Lauri Tukonen to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
INJURIES
1-11-06 - Left wing Jeff Giuliano is week-to-week with an upper body injury.
1-19-07 - Right wing Ryan Murphy is month-to-month with an upper body injury.

3-1-07 - Center Matt Ryan and defenseman Peter Harrold will assist with the Hollis Cavaliers squirt youth hockey practice on Friday, March 2 from 6:00-6:55 p.m. at the Cyclones Arena in Hudson, New Hampshire.
PROMOTIONS
2-27-07 - The Monarchs are celebrating Max's Birthday on Tuesday, February 27 when the Monarchs take on the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 p.m. Simon Sez will be performing during the first intermission and there will be a post-game fireworks show. Tuesday night is also Union Leader Family Value Night where you can purchase four Silver Level tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs or four soft pretzels for $49.
