Albany Devils News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - For their second straight meeting, the Albany Devils and the Springfield Falcons played 67 minutes without producing a goal. Like their last matchup on Mar. 15, the contest ended, 1-0, in the shootout. Unlike their last game, the Devils prevailed Friday at MassMutual Center, moving them within six points of the final playoff spot with seven games remaining.
With 32 saves during regulation and overtime and three more in the shootout, Scott Wedgewood registered his 12th win and second shutout of the season. Since Mar. 1, the 22-year-old has gone 5-1-1, allowing just 10 goals in seven appearances.
Saturday against the Falcons, he made 13 saves in the first, eight in the second, six in the third and five in overtime.
At the other end, Scott Munroe also registered his second shutout of the season. He finished with 26 stops.
Matt Lorito's lone shootout goal, which came at the bottom of the third round, was the first by any player against Springfield this season. Entering the night, the Falcons netminders were 15-for-15 on shootout attempts.
Albany (32-26-5-6, 75 pts.) sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing ninth-place Springfield (25-27-8-1, 79 pts.) and eighth-place Portland (37-24-6-1, 81 pts.).
