Oklahoma City Barons News Release

The Oklahoma City Barons finished their playing career in Charlotte with a 2-1 loss to the Checkers. Josh Winquist scored the Barons lone goal in the game.

Chad Larose staked the Checkers to a 1-0 lead early in the first period. With the Barons on a power play, defenseman Patrick Brown stripped the puck from Jason Williams and chipped it to Larose who went in unchallenged on Barons netminder Laurent Brossoit. The short-handed goal was the eighth allowed by Oklahoma City this season.

Josh Winquist tied the game at one 4:47 into the second period. Ryan Hamilton took a CJ Stretch pass and shot it goalward. Winquist was in the right place to deflect a shot past Checkers netminder John Muse. The point was Winquist's 10th in his last 13 games.

Charlotte forward Brodie Sutter would give the Checkers the lead again 12:21 into the second. Zack Boychuk found Sutter in the right wing circle where he collected the puck and sent it goalward, beating Brossoit.

The third period was played quickly. Oklahoma City had two shots beat Muse, but rang off the post. Early in the third, Mitch Moroz hit the post and with under three minutes to play, defenseman Jordan Oesterle also hit the post.

Laurent Brossoit stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in the loss. Brossoit has made 24 consecutive starts dating back to February 8. He falls to 22-20-4 on the season.

Oklahoma City returns to the Cox Convention Center on Tuesday, April 7 to take on the division leading San Antonio Rampage at 7 p.m.
