Oklahoma City Barons News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Laurent Brossoit made a club-record 47 saves and newly-anointed captain Ryan Hamilton scored two goals as the Oklahoma City Barons won for the first time in eight games, downing the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 in overtime at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Skating at 3-on-3 in the final two minutes of overtime, Hamilton took a pass from Nick Pageau and skated into the Charlotte zone before wristing a shot past Checkers goalie Drew MacIntyre. The goal 5:58 into the overtime period gave the Barons their first win since March 7, when they defeated the Checkers 6-1 in Oklahoma City.

Hamilton also provided the Barons with an early 1-0 lead 11:31 into the game, when he took a centering pass from Josh Winquist and fired a shot from the high slot that beat MacIntyre on his stick side for his first AHL goal since being returned from the Edmonton Oilers on March 25.

Brossoit's 47 saves were the most by a Barons goalie in franchise history, surpassing the old mark of 46 set by Frans Tuohimma on Oct. 25, 2014 in Oklahoma City's 6-5 win at the Texas Stars.

The Barons picked up two standings points with the win and remain in fifth place in the AHL's Western Conference, one point behind Rockford. Oklahoma City currently trails West Division-leading San Antonio by six points.

With the Barons holding a 1-0 lead after one period, Charlotte's Trevor Carrick tied the game at 3:47 of the second, when he skated into the Oklahoma City zone on a 2-on-1 rush with teammate Kyle Hagel and ripped shot from the right circle that sailed past Brossoit's blocker.

At 2:53 of the third period, Mitch Moroz regained the Barons' lead, jamming the rebound from a Brad Hunt shot under the pads of MacIntyre with several bodies piled up in front of the Checkers net.

Charlotte's Brody Sutter tied the game at two 11:16 into the third period, sliding the rebound from a Zach Boychuk shot beyond the outstretched stick of Brossoit to force the eventual overtime period.

The teams meet for a final time this season on Friday, April 3, in a 6 p.m. CST start at Time Warner Cable Arena.
